Towards this endeavor, the social, economic and political empowerment of women remains a key priority area for the organisation. At the same time, the organisation also strives for maintaining a balance between the technological advancement and indigenous cultural values of human kind. It strongly advocates for equity in the accessibility and use of natural resource and at the same time promotes sustainable management of these resources.
The development strategy of SAMARPIT SEWA SANSTHAN, has always been based on people´s needs, cultural values and their indigenous knowledge and traditional skills. The organisation subscribes to the process approach rather than the service delivery approach and therefore, the focus of its interventions is on building the capacities of the communities rather than providing them direct economic support.
The welfare approach being pursued by the Government of India for the past 50 years has failed to sustainably improve the socio-economic status of the marginalized and deprived sections of the society and the organisation is instead focusing on a rights-based approach to development.
The past twelve years of working with and for the rural communities, have strongly reinforced the belief that development is a constant process, which cannot have any shortcuts. Development enhances when community feels, community needs and community realizes its importance. Based upon our understanding all developmental interventions have to focus on search for possible options for solving the various problems at community level, building capacity of communities and later developing a sense of ownership amongst the communities. Based upon the unique socio-cultural and geo-political characteristics of Uttaranchal we have identified strengthening of local self-governance institutions and the sustainable management of natural resources as our key thematic areas.
